AngusWorks Partnership Launched
31 August 2010
A new partnership designed to tackle unemployment in Angus has been launched.
The Angus Employability Partnership brings together organisations across the public, private and voluntary sector to get people into work, keep people in work and develop the skills of those in work.
The partnership and the new AngusWorks brand was launched at an event in Carnoustie by Angus Provost Ruth Leslie Melville.
At the launch, representatives from each of the partnerships heard from Frances Wood, head of employability and tackling poverty with the Scottish Government, Neil Prentice, chair of the Angus Employability Partnership, and Gary Malone of Volunteer Centre Angus.
A new section on the AngusAhead.com website was also unveiled to provide a useful tool for both employability agencies and clients. The new pages will contain a wealth of information including local and national initiatives, success stories and good practice.
An Employer Pack which acts as a one stop shop approach for employers looking to recruit or develop staff was also introduced. The pack will connect employers with various public sector agencies in Angus who are working with local individuals to assist them into employment and those who can offer assistance to develop those in employment.
Welcoming the launch of the partnership, and the AngusWorks brand, Councillor David May, Angus Council’s spokesman on economic development, said: “This launch of this partnership is good news for Angus. By working together, agencies can share skills and knowledge to reduce the number of people claiming benefits in line with national targets.
“It is important, particularly during a recession, that all agencies with an employability remit, work together to give local people the best possible opportunity to compete in a tough jobs market
“Increased employment in the economy is a good thing; it generates new wealth and creates increased demand for local services – which can be particularly important in rural areas.”
