Tackling Poverty Rural Network (TPRN)

This group was established in 2009, as a sub-group of the COSLA Tackling Poverty Officers Group (TPOG). It is a Scotland-wide network with an interest in supporting work on rural issues. The specific aims of the network are:

  • to lobby to raise the 'rural' profile with Government
  • to progress thinking about the identification and measurement of deprivation in rural areas, and
  • to support, share information on, and exchange good practice in tackling deprivation, disadvantage and inequalities in rural areas.

Membership is open to anyone working in the public and voluntary sector with an interest in these issues. Work to date has included assessing Achieving Our Potential from a rural perspective; producing a paper about measuring deprivation and exclusion in rural areas (Our Rural Numbers are Not Enough - an independent position statement); and discussing poverty sensitive decision making.
