DWP Commissioning Strategy
In the July 2007 Green Paper 'In work, better off', the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) set out the case that there is real value to be gained by taking a more strategic approach to the commissioning of employment programmes and by simplifying and rationalising the existing set of welfare to work contracts.
Additionally, in the 'No one written off: reforming welfare to reward responsibility' paper the DWP set out the next steps in its ongoing programme of welfare reform.
The DWP Commissioning Strategy underpins this programme. The strategy aims to devolve initiative and innovation; providing opportunities for providers in all sectors – private, third and public – to play a part in the delivery of services, based on their abilities; aiming for greater flexibility in delivery and in return a substantial increase in the numbers of people who are given a second chance in the labour market and greater opportunities for progression in work.
