Practice Examples

There is a huge amount of employability and homelessness related good practice across Scotland, what there is less of is awareness by other organisations and regions of what is already in place and working well. The following examples are designed to showcase existing good practice, with the aim of sharing knowledge, solutions and contacts where possible. The case studies and practice examples also serve to demonstrate the holistic nature of employability and the fact that making a positive intervention in one way, at one point of the journey to work, can have multiple positive effects on a whole range of areas such as health, wellbeing; social networks and behaviours.

SHEN has created a national Homelessness & Employability Toolkit and will hold events to link in with key themes such as engaging hard to reach clients with the employability process. The Employability Learning Network and SHEN are actively seeking good practice examples of in-work support for homeless people; engaging hard to reach clients, and working with homeless couples or families. If you  have examples which you are willing to share please use the 'contact us' button at the top of this page, or contact: clare@scsh.org.uk

In working to highlight and address issues of employability relating to homelessness SHEN commissioned COMAS to undertake small scale research into the impact of social networks on the employability of those in temporary accommodation.  The following case studies and overview reflect some of the learning derived from this undertaking

Individual Case Studies

SHEN is currently working on sourcing practice examples of financial inclusion work with homeless people and will be posting these to complement the good practice guide that is also being developed.
