Case Studies

These documents provides some background to SALUS as an organisation, and client case studies demonstrating the health and employability work undertaken by SALUS.

  • Working Towards Health Client Case Studies - The Working Towards Health programme is designed to support individuals who are experiencing a health condition which prevents them from participating in work, education or training. It is open to any individual living in the Dundee City area with a mild to moderate health condition, who are in receipt of a working age benefit.
  • Employability on Prescription - This South East Glasgow based service provides an access route to employability for clients through their local GP / AHP service.   GPs/ AHPs  are not asked to become employability experts but rather follow the three Rs Respond, Raise and Refer.   When a patient raises an issue related to employment  the GP can respond and refer them to a Bridging Service.
  • Beyond the trolley service case study - originated from the work of Angus Community Health Partnership and Volunteer Centre Angus.
  • Lanarkshire Occupational Therapy Vocational Assessment Support Project  -  The Occupational Therapy Vocational Assessment and Support Service is currently offered in one Community Mental Health Team, in the rural Clydesdale area of South Lanarkshire.

Local Approaches

  • Health at Work Strategic Plan - Evaluation Report -  This report outlines the outcomes and learning from the
implementation of the Health at Work Strategic Plan 2008-11
  • NHS Tayside Healthcare Academy   -  The NHS Tayside Healthcare Academy is part of a modern, innovative Human Resources and Workforce Development Strategy, which aims to ensure a sustainable quality workforce, which is responsive to local population need. It offers 3 programmes, a 6 week Pre-Employment Programme, Modern Apprenticeships and a 36 week SVQ 2 level Foundation programme.
  • Coping with the Stress of Job Loss  - NHS Lothian and Edinburgh’s Joined Up for Jobs partnership has produced a new leaflet for patients and clients who are affected by job loss caused by the current economic crisis.
  • Bridging Service Toolkit - This Glasgow based service provides an important access route to employability for clients who have not previously engaged with employability due to wider health and/or support issues. It brings together employability advisors with specialist support staff (money advice and occupational therapist) who work together from a common base and on an outreach basis within a primary care, community care and social work context.
  • Behind the Trolley Service originated from the work of Angus Community Health Partnership and Volunteer Centre Angus. Its intention was to undertaken research leading to an evidence based set of recommendations to radically refocus the role of volunteering in Health.
