Annual Report for the Child Poverty Strategy for Scotland 2013

20 September 2013

The Child Poverty Strategy for Scotland Annual Report 2013 was published on 6 September.

The report reflects what the Scottish Government is doing to tackle child poverty and also highlights work being undertaken by local government, third sector and business.

The report is presented under three headings:

  • Pockets - this section addresses cost, maximising income and minimising expenditure;
  • Prospects - this considers employment as a route out of poverty, relationship between skills, employment and childcare as well as the link between poverty and health; and
  • Places - this section explores the relationship between poverty and housing, particularly affordable housing.

The statistical data is incorporated from the poverty statistics published in June 2013 and includes commentary on the impacts of welfare reform.

In the Spring 2014 the Scottish Government will publish a revised child poverty strategy, building on the commitment to do all we can to maximise household incomes and improve children's wellbeing and life chances.

You can view the report on the Scottish Government website.
