NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is the largest NHS organisation in Scotland and one of the largest in the UK serving a population of 1.2 million from Gourock to Easterhouse, Lennoxtown to Eaglesham and Alexandria to Bishopbriggs.

Key Employability Contacts

  • Health Works Strategic Lead - David Walker (Lead CHCP Director for Employment and Health)
  • Health and Employability Delivery Group Representative - Jackie Erdman (Corporate Inequalities Manager)

Local Approaches to Health & Employability

  • Health and Employability Guidance for Health Staff (Renfrewshire)
  • Compass Evaluation (Frontline Consultants) In the Autumn 2003, NHS Greater Glasgow commissioned the Wise Group to develop a research project to explore whether primary care offers a meaningful intermediary in supporting people into employment. The emerging service 'COMPASS' worked with primary care staff in Greater Pollok to enable 15 GP practices and other community health staff to refer patients
  • Employability on Prescription - This South East Glasgow based service provides an access route to employability for clients through their local GP / AHP service. GPs/ AHPs are not asked to become employability experts but rather follow the three Rs Respond, Raise and Refer. When a patient raises an issue related to employment the GP can respond and refer them to a Bridging Service.
  • Bridging Service Toolkit - This Glasgow based service provides an important access route to employability for clients who have not previously engaged with employability due to wider health and/or support issues. It brings together employability advisors with specialist support staff (money advice and occupational therapist) who work together from a common base and on an outreach basis within a primary care, community care and social work context.
  • NHS GGC Acute Services Baseline Audit was conducted to explore the contribution that Allied Healthcare Professionals can make to supporting their patients to return to work or access employment for the first time.
