Young People and Transitions to Employment

The Scottish Government's long term aim is to enable all young people to access and progress in learning and to equip them with the skills for learning, life and work - since this is the best way of improving their long term employability.  Our  national performance indicator on "increasing the proportion of young people in learning, training or work", and our youth employment and skills strategies reflect this aim.

Action for Jobs:  Supporting Young Scots into Work:  Scotland's Youth Employment Strategy describes how young people are being supported through an all-Government, all-Scotland approach, in the short, medium and long term.  It recognises the importance of partnership working in achieving the best results.

Skills for Scotland: A Lifelong Skills Strategy, gives a clear commitment to young people about the routes on offer to education, employment and training - and the support they can expect.

Skills for Scotland:  Accelerating the Recovery and Sustaining Sustainable Economic Growth, our refresh of Skills for Scotland:  A Lifelong Learning Skills Strategy makes clear the Scottish Government's commitment to training and skills and sets out a flexible, responsive, partnership approach to meeting Scotland's skills needs at a crucial point in our economic recovery.
