Developing a complete service
Individuals want a clear and obvious source of support which helps them understand their needs and provides a coherent and progressive way of helping them tackle the issues that may be preventing or discouraging them from getting a job. The support will include specialist services (eg for health or debt issues) as well as more conventional employability and skills support.
Employers want a single, simple source of support that provides them with the right recruits at the right time and helps them through any initial teething problems.
It is helpful to think of the local employability service as a ‘supply chain’ of the different kinds of services needed to help people through each stage of their journey to and through work. A typical supply chain is described above. This can be used to map current services and assess where there may be weaknesses in terms of missing functions or inadequate funding compared with demand.
