Supported Businesses in Scotland
29 July 2010
The public sector in Scotland spends around £9 billion each year purchasing goods and services. Not only does this ensure that essential public services such as health, education and policing are delivered, it also supports vital jobs across Scotland – including nearly 1,000 jobs in the third sector alone.
More than ever before, it is crucial that all public sector procurement provides the best possible value for money. This means taking the full economic, environmental and social impact of spending into account. The involvement of the third sector is key to achieving this.
Supported factories and businesses have demonstrated that they can provide good value for money to the public sector, and public bodies are required by the Scottish Sustainable Procurement Action Plan to make the maximum possible use of reserved contracts for supported factories and businesses – at the very least, every public body should aim to have at least one such contract.
This brochure gives details of the 24 supported businesses based in Scotland, the products they offer and the services they provide, and gives information about procuring goods and services from supported businesses across Scotland using the Reserved Contracts procedure, sometimes know as ‘Article 19’.
