SURF 2009 Annual Lecture
5th November 2009
Edinburgh
Dr Kate Pickett, co-author of the critically acclaimed 2009 book The Spirit Level will deliver the 2009 SURF Annual Lecture on 5th November 2009 in Edinburgh.
The event is free for SURF members and just £25 for non-members to attend.
Dr Pickett will present the extensive and compelling research evidence from her book that shows that a wide variety of social problems, including crime, violence, low educational achievement and obesity are more likely to occur in less equal societies. Her substantial study, co-written with Professor Richard Wilkinson, has been widely acclaimed by academics and reviewers and is shifting the policy debate on the importance of addressing inequality at all levels.
As part of their continuing work on regeneration, poverty and inequality, SURF is delighted to be able to present the opportunity for members and contacts to hear the evidence first hand and to participate in a questions and discussions session with the author.
The Annual Lecture, one of the key events in SURF's yearly calendar, will take place in a central Edinburgh venue on the afternoon of Thursday 5th November.
SURF members will receive a formal invitation to the lecture later this month. Non-members may attend the lecture for a fee of £25 (ex VAT).
