Skills for Scotland: A Lifelong Skills Strategy

The Scottish Government Skills Strategy was launched in September 2007.  This Strategy is a framework to show how all of the constituent parts of the education and learning systems can contribute to giving Scotland a skills base that is world class.

As well as aiming to promote equal access to and participation in, skills and learning for all, the aim is to recognise people’s different needs, situations and goals and remove the barriers that limit what people can do and can be. There is an expectation that  partner organisations to do the same.

Work is currently underway to take forward the range of Scottish Government commitments including:

  • the delivery of integrated offender learning, skills and employability provision;
  • integration of employability and skills to facilitate the journey from long-term unemployment to sustained work and in-work progression;
  • facilitation of local design and delivery of learning for those furthest from the labour market.
