What’s in a name?

Your brand is more than a name – it is an identity that you can use in a range of ways to promote your service and its benefits.  In developing your brand there are a number of aspects you may want to think about:

  • What you call your service can make a difference to local awareness.  What do you do and how can you include this in your name?
  • Do you want to convey the idea of a local service for local people – if so, how can you do this?
  • What colours do you want to use?  Do you want to relate the colours and form of your brand to another local brand (eg a local or community brand)?  Do your funders want aspects of their brand to be incorporated (and what credit do they want on any material you produce?).
  • If you want a logo or symbol, what will convey the difference you make to people and prove appealing?
  • What will your name/logo look like on a range of material (eg letterhead, poster, flier, building)?  Will it photocopy well in black and white?
