Where to start: Individual Funders

Individual funders can find it helpful to start with these questions:

  • Where is the need for additional support? 
  • Are there client groups or geographical areas which need more support? 
  • Are there some functions which are weak (eg outreach and engagement;  employer engagement and post recruitment support)? 
  • Are there some areas of demand where the scale of the current service needs to be supplemented?
  • Are there issues with current service performance? 
  • Do local providers need help to develop appropriate performance management systems? 
  • Is there a need for a stronger focus on demand and working with employers to identify vacancies and help them recruit staff who are currently unemployed or inactive?
  • Are there underused resources or staff who do not fully recognise the contribution they could make to the employability agenda? 
  • Are all the front line staff dealing with priority clients clear about the role they can play and what everyone else does?
  • Are funded organisations clear about the expectations placed on them in terms of their role and functions, the kind of relationships they need to have to fulfil these, the profile of clients they are expected to engage with, and the performance they need to achiev?
  • Is our funding complementing and supplementing the funding of our other partners?
