Redundancy Support

PACE (Partnership Action for Continuing Employment) is the Scottish Government's national strategic partnership framework for responding to redundancy situations. Skills Development Scotland co-ordinates PACE at a national level and facilitates local level response teams providing tailored help and support for individuals at risk of, or experiencing, redundancy.

The response to each redundancy situation is tailored to meet individual needs and local circumstances. For employers, there is support to help them consider alternatives to redundancies, providing options to retrain to retain staff. Where this isn't possible impartial advice is available on the best approach when it comes to making redundancies.

For those facing or at risk of redundancy, services offered include:

  • Full Jobcentre Plus services
  • One-to-one counselling and advice on career development and opportunities
  • Access to high quality training
  • Seminars on skills such as CV-writing and starting up a business (including franchising)
  • Access to IT facilities.

Skills Development Scotland has a dedicated team of PACE advisers. They have extensive experience of dealing with redundancy situations and are available to visit companies affected by redundancy, to meet with staff and to offer free and impartial advice on the following:

  • Coping with redundancy stress.
  • Understanding the redundancy process, related rights and entitlements.
  • State benefits and tax calculations.
  • How to look for jobs.
  • Writing CVs, application forms and covering letters and preparing for interviews.
  • Identifying future career and training opportunities.
  • Starting up a business.
  • Making the most of money.
